Good morning all,
I’ve been wanting to try a new blog look for a while — pardon the theme and layout changes while I work on that. There is not a way to do it behind the scenes and not publicize it. I realize this is not exciting work for some. But if you like talking blog design, layout, such things, I’d love to ask you a few questions, and to hear your answers.
What do you think of the Preservation in Pink logos? The former banner logo? The small logo? Both have been around for years. I’ve always liked them, but maybe a fresh look is good? Bloggers and others, when is the appropriate time to update a logo?

banner logo (formerly on top of the blog)

small logo – used for social media and business cards.
Small changes right now: social media links / email / etc can be found via buttons on the button of the home page. Scroll down. And some of the sidebar widgets have been moved to the bottom footer areas.
Everything else should be the same for the now. Thanks for your patience and thoughts!
Happy Monday!
– Kaitlin
Looks good Kaitlin! I especially like the simplicity of the top menu.
If you still have the original components of the logo, I wonder how it would look if you flattened it out by removing the drop shadows. I think that would tidy them up and bring them up to date with the mobile/tablet driven tile look without losing the charm of the original.
Thank you, Josh! Those are great ideas – and definitely it is a good idea to go streamlined. I have the original files…but I don’t know photoshop (for shame, I know). Time to find myself a graphic designer. Do you freelance?
Sure, I can give it a shot! I’ll send you a note about how to get me the files.
Great! Got your email, I’ll send over some files. Thank you!
I like the new theme! I feel like you only need to update a logo when you feel like it, or if you’re doing a tonal change that you want to be reflected. That said, I could see something a little more streamlined fitting in well with your new theme.
Daniel, great perspective. I am hoping to keep up with the modern looking blogs, so perhaps a minor change is necessary. Thank you!
I like the new minimalist theme. Maybe you could combine the old banner and logo into a small graphical logo? Maybe it could just say PiP. And have the flamingo, of course.
Thank you, Andi. Yes, something in between would be good. Now everyone is round, and neither of my logos are round. Definitely a flamingo. Know anyone interested in a freelance gig?
As you and I have discussed before, I love your page. The only change I feel is needed is more information on your pictures. It is very frustrating to find a real good picture and not any description or history to go with it.
Stuart, I appreciate your comments and understand your frustration. Unfortunately, many buildings I don’t have any information about – it’s just a drive by photograph. Such is the hazard of instant photo blogging. But I’ll do my best to include more information when I can. Thanks for reading and commenting.
