I live nearby. It used to be a bridge for cars many years ago. They built a new bridge (not the overpass you see in the picture) and this bridge was kept for pedestrians and cyclists. All the bridges on this canal were drawbridges except the rain bridges that would rotate instead. The canal was not used since the St-Lawrence seaway opened in the early fifties.
Given the canal, I’ll be it’s a draw bridge….with a super highway bridge above.
It looks more like a walkway bridge. There doesn’t seem to be a road on either side for cars. The high way is above.

Pony truss bridge. Some forward looking city folks elected to preserve it on site?
