Dear Kaitlin,
Any ideas on how to “save” a house that you see deteriorating beside the road? Has any of your “publicity” via yuor blog evoked viable results? We have a local 1800’s house that seems to be on its last legs. I sure hate to see it go; it’s part of the community. I’m hoping to encourage a non-owner relative to publish a piece for the local paper –who knows, maybe someone will buy it. We mustn’t give up.
Heidi
Hi Heidi,
It’s hard to save a house that is neglected by the owners. Often the reasons are financial. Are the owners willing to sell it? Do they just need help with how to get started? I’ve heard from a few people who are interested in some of the Abandoned VT buildings featured, but I don’t know for sure if it’s changed anything in the fate of the building. Have you contacted the Preservation Trust of Vermont? I’d say the more publicity, the better, assuming the owners wouldn’t shy away from it. And it’s probably best to not accuse them of neglecting the building. Maybe they don’t know what to do.
Let me know if I can help with publicity.
