A multiple part quiz for you today. (1) What is this? (2) If you know what it is, what can you say about it? Including, how can you date this material?

What is this? Where would you find it? How old is it? What do you think of it?
And (3) What is your entirely subject opinion of this?
Looks festive, yes? Have fun!
It’s wallpaper, from the 70s (maybe late 60s even). The brownish stuff has a nap to it, kind of like velvet but rougher. This stuff always made me think “Texas bordello.”
It looks like metallic flocked wallpaper from the 1970s, if you ask me. My opinion? Way cool!
The inside of a box, perhaps?
My subjective opinion is that if it were in an elevator (especially one with mirrors) or tile in a shower – I would not go in! I would however, poke my head in for the full effect before fleeing.
interesting question: how to date it.
I keep looking at the curls and seeing the curve is not subtle enough or varied enough to be hand made, or before the Industrial Revolution, or copied by someone who has studied classic proportions. Yet it is based on wrought iron and Rococo forms. I agree that it feels 1970’s, yet it’s hard to define what i am seeing –
I also think it looks like flocked wallpaper and that it has a ’70s vibe – but I think it could be Victorian. Flocked and metallic papers were popular then too.
Wow, good job everyone! It is wallpaper, apparently you all know much more about it than I do. I’d guess the 60s/70s as well, though I don’t know for sure. This picture is from a friend’s house, so maybe we’ll figure out the answer.
