Preservation Pop Quiz
Now that I’ve noticed these on the side of the road, I can’t stop noticing them. Maybe it’s an obvious feature to many, but it took me a while to realize what it is. What is your guess? And how often do you notice these?
I think that was probably a marker that the highway department used to mark the start or end of a construction project. The writing is probably long gone, but it might have been painted with the project number and name.
Oh, good guess. But, nope, sorry. Maybe I’ll post another picture later for another clue before revealing the answer. I originally thought road marker like everyone else!

is it granite? I think concrete would be spalled.

Oh it’s a concrete fence post. It’s always amazing that they could be formed up so thin with such large aggregate.
My other guess was that it held a USPS Owen’s style mail box.

Sorry all, no one has guessed it yet. That or all of these items are interchangeable and recyclable. Stay tuned.
