My guess is that the demolition of the building on this property will be monitored so that the maximum amount of material is diverted from waste dumps; i.e. as much material as possible will be reused in new construction projects. I think it is benefitting those two organizations because the proceeds (or a portion of the proceeds) of the sale of the salvaged materials will be donated to them. It is also possible that Habitat is taking a direct donation of materials to build some of their houses.
Assuming that the demolition is not a bad thing (i.e. not of a historic property that should have been saved), this is great!!!
Jen is exactly right. What Habitat can’t use in their houses, they sell to raise money for their cause…it’s amazing how much is salvageable from a demo with a little time and forethought
