Ok, I don’t know if my blood relationship to you may lead your readers to think I have a bias and I deny that I do, but I have to say I love your newsletter and blogsite. As you know I am a real history buff and after 20 years being a lawyer I realized that I went into the wrong profession because I find what you are doing fascinating.
My son, Colin, is entering high school and my daughter, Laney, is entering 7th grade. I was wondering if you are aware of any summer programs in historic preservation for high school or middle school students. My kids are pretty well scheduled for various things this summer, but I was thinking for next summer. Please let me know and keep up the good work and let me know if you are going to make it to Philadelphia anytime soon.
Andrew, thank you so much for the compliments on Preservation in Pink. I know there are a few of us who can find preservation related summer programs for middle school and high school students. I’ll make it a point to compile a list to share.
You might also want to look at The Student Conservation Association’s website http://www.thesca.org for internship possibilities. It is a wonderful organization that provides some incredible opportunities.

Kaitlin, you should get your contributors to update their bios. Many have moved on to new jobs and responsibilities. Since many are now living/working in various parts of the country/world, you have a great opportunity to have posts about preservation from various regions — New England, midAtlantic, midwest, and the deep south.
It’s great that you can follow your passion. Wish I could have done that when choosing a profession in the 70′s, but the opportunities were not available. If there HAD been, maybe the preservation situation wouldn’t be so dire now. It hurts to see so many beautiful structures torn down rather than saved. The “out with the old and in with the new” attitude in America is almost criminal. There are 2 great articles in the Nov. 27 St. Louis Post Dispatch about that – one involving the theft of bricks in St. Louis and one about the possible preservation of the Jefferson Arms Hotel. Check it out and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
